Introducing “The Happy Illustrator”

Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been developing more content ideal for teaching and speaking publicly as I intend on expanding beyond being ‘just a designer’.

Well in prepping my next training on personal branding,

I kinda

changed my entire approach with my own personal brand because I wasn’t using mine in the best possible way.

And if I was to teach it, I better be living it.

It’s the picture of you painted with your unique skills, talents and expertise. Plus, it has a lot to do with how you present and display these skills, such as your mannerisms, language, style of fashion, etc. In other words it’s the description others will have of you when you’re no longer in the room.

Well, believe it or not, we all already have one. (It may not be the one you want, but you have one.)

Your personal brand is one of the best marketing tools you naturally possess because there’s only one you. And with more and more people coming online to do business, having a personal brand will most likely become a necessity in order to be REMEMBERED (branded).

For me, regardless of what I do or offer, people constantly refer back to my illustrations. I get approached online almost daily about them. I’m tagged in posts, sent email inquiries, DM’s, you name it!

Because of this, I know wholeheartedly that my gift in illustration is the one asset that sets me a part from everyone else. It is the gift that’s literally making room for me. Good thing I actually like illustrating or I’d be fighting with God and we all know that’s a losing battle. Also, it’s the one thing that comes naturally to me whereas everything else I can and want to do takes a lot of work and energy.

So instead of trying to build my personal brand the hard way. I’m going to embrace what comes naturally to me and work towards being known as ‘The Happy Illustrator’.

It’s easy to remember.

Describes me to a tee.

And, still alludes to what I can do for others.

WHAT ABOUT YOU? (This is not a rhetorical question, I really want to know!)

  1. What’s the one thing people constantly ask you about?
  2. What’s the one thing people seem to purchase from you over and over again?
  3. What’s the one skill you have that comes easy to you?
  4. What’s the one personal attribute that will help stand out from your competition?
  5. And what’s the one thing you want to be remembered for?

God designed us all unique and that’s where you start when it comes to building your personal brand.

She Met Her Goal!

How many of you are aware of the ‪#‎1000BlackGirlBooks‬ initiative started by a young girl named Marley Dias?

Marley’s story is about her love for reading. Frustrated with the stories she had access to, Marley decided to start a campaign to find 1000 books where the main characters looked more like her.

Well she recently met her goal and today I was tagged in a picture of her holding a book I illustrated!

Also there’s a great lesson here… we really can impact our world, it just takes action and a little creativity. 11 year old Marley is a great example for all of us.

Don’t Wait, Start Now!

Greetings everyone!

2015 is winding down… Have you started prepping for your 2016?

The month of November is a great time to reflect one where you’ve been and where you want to be. No matter how big the goal, it takes a daily climb to reach it. Use this week to plan ahead, literally!

Let me show you what planning ahead looks like…

Because the majority of what I do is bring dreams to reality, I’m fortunate enough to work with individuals who have been preparing for their 2016 for months now.

Be on the look out for two new children’s books I had the pleasure of illustrating:

  1. Adventures of Alleykats – The Missing President by R. J. Williams (
  2. I Know I Can by Veronica Chapman (

I’m so proud of these two ladies and I’m honored to play a role in creating their something that was once just a thought.

So what have you been dreaming about? Whether business or personal, you need to be working towards it to make that dream come true.

2016 is right around the corner. Don’t wait, start now!
